[Move character / Mover personaje]
This game was a submission for the #2 Student Game Jam, made in less than 48 hours. I participated by myself, so making this prototype was a mind-boggling experience.
The Jam's theme was "Outer Space", I decided to create an astronaut that finds herself immersed in mysterious circumstances.
You wake up in the storage room of an unknown ship, with no recollection of what happened, and no means to get out. Explore the ship to learn that knowledge of the alien words is the KEY to open doors. Interact with the world, destroy boxes, kill its inhabitants, run through them, grab keypasses, avoid lasers, look at outer space... No progress is wasted, as when you die, the cycle is reset, keeping the memories of the words learnt in it for the rest of the game.
Can you reach the control roon and find a way out of the ship's course to total anhihilation?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The game was published to the Jam with:
- 4 enemy AI states, 2 types of enemies, some of witch have predictable patrol patterns.
- Cohesion rules to every drawing, following a restrictive color palette.
- Multi-dialogue system for enemies and the player.
- Pathfinding updates in real time wheen needed for all instances and tiles.
- No linear path to victory, diverging gameplay.
- A big spaceship with plenty of varied rooms to explore.
- A carefully integrated language the player can learn by interacting with their surroundings, text is parsed so that any words learned are translated.
- Intuitive gameplay and simple controls.
- A fully integrated story with a complete ending.
- Voiced dialogue by Zerua Galego.
Things that were planned but finally cancelled due to time restraints, or funny quirks about coding:
- A traps system (that can be found in the game files and tileset).
- Two endings for those who learned all the words available / those who did not.
- Sleeping enemies. (For some reason it broke the pathfinding system in weird ways and after hours of debugging it had to be let go.)
- A loop reset animation that was like reserring a computer. (There are existing VHS and CRT shaders available, but I did not have the time to make a progressive/animated one that goes from zero to full effect.)
Intended for 1920x1080 or compatible resolutions.
